Camp Lejeune, Easter

You guys. Can you believe it?! I haven’t blogged since 2017! Say what?! Where the heck have I been and what have I been doing? Well, honestly, a little bit of everything! Here's a quick recap…

I was able to go see Ellen for the first time and it was as magically as I expected it to be! I may have cried, but whatever. It was amazing and I got to go with my sister and her sister-in-law, which was equally as amazing!

We took a family pre-deployment trip to one of our favorite places, ever - Asheville, NC. We spent a lot of time together as a family, explored antique shops, snuggled, and we even hired one of those fancy nanny services so that we could have a date night. It was great!

Caroline turned two and was surrounded by so many people that loved her! It was a big party that we combined with Mark’s going away farewell. Needless to say, she ate lots of cake and played her little heart out.

This girl and I endured a very long deployment, a hurricane (thankfully we weren’t in NC and rode it out in Indiana with family), explored, and learned how to do things just the two of us. We did it and now she’s my little mini me!

In my spare time (read: nap time and bedtime), I built and flipped furniture. It was a very welcomed break from the hustle and bustle of the day! It was also amazing to learn new techniques doing something that I truly love to do. I need more of this in 2019, that’s for sure!

I visited Mark in Italy during his deployment! Gah, I’m so thankful for parents who continue to just “make it work,” so that Mark and I can do things outside of being parents. It helps that they’re absolutely obsessed with Coco and the best Mimi and PopPop, ever!

I helped my mom run for County Council and, although she didn’t win, it struck a cord in both of us to just be more present in our local communities and figure out how we can make a difference. It was super crazy and intense, but looking back at it all… we had a lot of fun!

We welcomed this guy home with wide open arms. Like… very wide open arms… I was so over the deployment! The hurricane delayed him by almost a full month and it was excruciating. Clearly, we were all pretty pumped to have him back.

Mark and I had a weekend away to celebrate the USMC birthday ball. Getting fancy is one of my favorite things to do. If you’re in the USMC world, you’ll know what I’m talking about: He promoted to Major so this was our last year with THE uniform. It all changes from here on out and I’m mourning the loss, for sure.

Right after the holidays, we moved to Virginia. We’ve been here for just over 75 days (trust me, we filed our damage claim on the 75th day - the last day possible) and we’re adjusting. We are starting to feel settled, but super chaotic, too. Mark and I are both super busy, Coco is in school and we’re trying to just get the hang of our new ‘hood. We’ll get there!

While all of that stuff up there was happening, I was photographing my little heart out. I invested in my education, I dove in, and I felt fulfilled. Like, really fulfilled.

That’s when I realized that everything that I’ve done in my life was pointing to this. To say I took the easy path would be a lie, but here I am and I’m genuinely happy! I love what I do and I love meeting so many amazing people!

I’ll go more into that later, but just know that I’m here and I’m not going anywhere! This job was made for me and I’m grateful for everything that I’ve learned up to this point!

I’ve said since the new year that 2019 was going to be the best year ever and, so far, it has not disappointed! I’m so grateful to be back to blogging and so happy to have a space to share all of the fun things happening. You guys, it’s going to be so good. Stay tuned!
